I always pay with a credit card. I use Paypal, but I NEVER use paypal funds or direct withdraw from my bank account. Always click "choose other form of payment", then click Credit Card, then click "Yes I'm sure".
You would've still been able to call your credit card company, as their protection is much better. Paypal just sucks.
Well yeah, but if you do a chargeback, you're taking the money back from PayPal, not from the guy who you paid. PayPal will then just suspend your account, or take the money out of your bank account or your existing PayPal balance.
What I should have done is filed a complaint after a month, instead of having good faith and waiting so long.

I ordered the same book from the same website nearly four months ago. It never arrived. I emailed David who eventually replied explaining the book was supplied from the US, and offered me a refund. I decided to wait as long as I could before the PayPal claim window closed. Still no book but fortunately I was able to get a refund via PayPal.
Same problem, I too ordered The Internet is a Playground myself, one email stating a delay and then no reply. No refund via paypal either. Not so funny.
If you are having problems ordering the book, email kimberly @ 27bslash6 . com, apparently there were 116 orders that went missing when they changed distributors. She was very helpful and I was sent a replacement book within 1 week.
I tried that. She responded at first, but then stopped answering. The last time I heard from her was Oct 13, nearly 3 weeks ago.
A year and half later, no book. David is a thieving bitch
