Av's SuperKeys v1.1 =================== www.avbrand.com DESCRIPTION ----------- This application allows you to assign a variety of functions to any key on your keyboard, such as the 'Calculator' key found on many keyboards. WHAT'S NEW IN 1.1 ----------------- Extra winamp controls: - Jump to file - Copy current song's name to clipboard - Type current song's name on keyboard (as if you had typed it) (both also available with "Extra info" option) - Show current file in explorer. (thanks Beryl!) USAGE ----- Follow these simple steps to get started with Av's SuperKeys. 1. Start the application. If you are starting it for the first time, a message will appear and the Edit Configuration window will display. Otherwise, Right-Click the SuperKeys icon in your system notification area, and select "Edit Configuration". 2. The Edit Configuration window appears. This window lists all of the keyboard keys that SuperKeys is currently monitoring. 3. Click "Add or Delete Keys". The Key Editor window appears. 4. Click "Add New Key". The Add New Key window appears. 5. Press the key you'd like to assign. If you make a mistake, click "Try Again", and press the key again. 6. Type a name for this key into the box. Usually a good name is what's written on the actual key on your keyboard. 7. Click "Add Key" to finish the process. 8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for each key you'd like to control on your keyboard. 9. Now, close the "Key Editor" window by clicking "Done". 10. Select a key from the list in the "Edit Configuration" window. 11. Choose a function from the drop-down list below. 12. To save your changes, click "Save & Close" FUNCTIONS --------- SuperKeys can do the following tasks: > WinAmp Controls: Play / Pause, Previous, Next, Stop, Shuffle These functions will control the WinAmp Media Player. Download this player at www.winamp.com. These functions work for WinAmp versions 2.x and 5.x. > System Volume / Mute These functions will change the volume or mute/unmute the sound on the primary sound card on your system. > Monitors to Sleep This command will send a DPMS Sleep command to your monitor. Not all monitors support this feature. Your computer will not go to sleep, only your monitor. To return from sleep, touch any key or move the mouse. > Launch Application You can use this command to start any application, document, or web page. Type the full path to the application into the box. Surround the path with quotes. Examples: "c:\windows\notepad.exe" "c:\windows\notepad.exe" "c:\my files\some file.txt" http:\\www.avbrand.com "c:\my files\some file.txt" and so on. TROUBLESHOOTING & FAQ --------------------- > Q: While adding a new key, SuperKeys doesn't see me pressing the new key and the "Add" button remains disabled. > A: Some buttons found on newer USB keyboards (For example, the Logitech Internet Navigator's "Shopping" button) can not be used with SuperKeys. They do not generate keyboard scan codes when pressed. Try connecting your keyboard with a USB-to-PS2 adapter, if available. If you are not using a USB keyboard, and SuperKeys refuses to notice your key anyway, try configuring SuperKeys to use a common key on your keyboard, such as the A key. If this works, it means most likely that SuperKeys doesn't support the key you pressed originally. If this does not work, there is some other problem with SuperKeys. > Q: SuperKeys crashes when I use the volume keys / the volume keys do not work > A: SuperKeys is not compatible with all types of sound cards. Do not use these keys if they do not work for you. > Q: SuperKeys does not control the right sound card when using the volume keys. > A: SuperKeys uses the first sound card it finds. At this time, SuperKeys does not support selecting a sound card. > Q: Will SuperKeys work with iTunes / Real Player / etc? > A: Sorry, at this time SuperKeys will only work with WinAmp versions 2.x or 5.x. Support for other media players is not planned at this time. > Q: SuperKeys is behaving strangely / won't let me edit the configuration. > A: In case something strange is occuring, delete the keys.ini file located in the SuperKeys directory. This will reset SuperKeys to default. -------------------- Enjoy SuperKeys! -av
